Broke, Unemployed and Blogging

This is going to be one of the most honest form of blog if anyone is wondering why someone would write a blog about being unemployed, is it to get some sympathy from the people surfing net or do I doubt my employ-ability. My expedition in search of job has got me wondering how ironical the whole concept of working is, you join a company to get some money in return for exploitation of the form of services that an individual can provide whether mental, emotional and physical that is strictly and solely meant for the immediate company which you are working for.

I am an MBA fresher eager to enter the corporate world and while most of my colleagues have already cheering their success of getting into reputed companies and also getting their first or second salary slips, I can’t stop imagining and wondering how the kind of emotions that would burst out would be, when a person would get his/her first salary. While for some it would be a sign of freedom and independence, others would take it as a payback time to their beloved parents who spent their hard earned money to educate their children in well reputed colleges and schools. This make me even more wonder how more ironical is the society which is coming to an era where parents happily spend all their money in educating their kids to get into a lifestyle which is exhausting and exploiting. Parents are more appreciating if their ward is getting into a branded company and they give no appreciation if someone wishes to start something on their own.

There isn’t a thing called quality time, which actually in company’s term is meant to be given towards them and towards achieving company goals. The hobbies and recreational activities which people earlier indulged into so as to relax and refresh themselves has moved from traveling, playing sports or doing any creative activity to watching movies in expensive and luxurious multiplexes, shopping in exquisite mall and finding new restaurants or what is called hangout places to splurge and then work even harder to get that back. Worst are the companies that try to provide recreational avenues within the company premises so that the employee doesn't leave the walls of the company.

A simple question like: Why can’t we find something relaxing and refreshing without spending too much money? Would seem to be a question asked by a lunatic, as a question like that would mean finding the answer in the deepest ends of the space. Working hours have extended from 5 hour job to 8 hour job to 12 hour job to hour-less job (which means there are no timings and if the company wishes they may even ask you to work while you are engaged in loo). Achieving targets is not satisfactory, achieving beyond targets is average and achieving even further beyond targets is can do much better. With such bench-marked performance indicators, performing task to its utmost perfection is the only option available to the employees and they try to give their best shot in every project or task. Work comes all the way to their home and the concept of work at home which may seem to be a relief or a relaxed form of working condition seems like a nightmare.

Globalization with its pros of bringing more business to the Indian shores has also forced employees to work even harder and stretching their working hours to unknown dark hole. And the stupid earth had to be round and have different time zone across the world. MNCs proudly claim to be having 24/7 working efficient employees do to their existence at almost every corner of the planet. People wish to accelerate their career growth and demand more money in return for their services, pushing other market prices to soaring higher with the more and more money piling up at its disposal. And not to forget the huge amount of politics and physical harassment that exist in the rat race of Corporate World.

Seeing this all and seeing that restaurant bar at the corner of the city where the owner has been serving food for the past 25 years and is happy and content to live in his own slow pace way of lifestyle makes me wonder, is all the running around and slogging one’s ass out just worth it.
